In 2017 BREED was successful in winning a grant of $50,000 through the Youth Opportunities Program funded by Department of Family and Community (FACS) to run a program for children and young people who have a passion for technology. This successful program commenced in July 2017 and concluded recently with a small celebration for the students to showcase their achievements.
The program ran Monday and Wednesday evenings for two hours with 25 students participating. The program was led by two IT Mentors and a Site Manager employed by BREED. Additionally, BREED’s IT mentors encouraged some of young people on the spectrum into leadership/mentor roles.
Feedback from a few of the parents included:
- “She was on such a high when I picked her up. And they absolutely loved her apparently and said their is no shyness about my daughter…. well after 15 min that was it!”
- “He LOVED it. We were the last ones to leave. Thanks so much for inviting him. He wants to know how many weeks it goes for. Says he cant wait till next week”
- “He enjoyed it. He wouldn’t stop talking about it”
