BREED Secures Government Grant to Launch Pathways to Freedom Program

BREED Australia is thrilled to announce a transformative milestone in our journey to uplift communities and support individuals from diverse backgrounds. We have secured a 3-year grant from the Australian Government’s Individual Capacity Building (ICB) Program, which will empower us to launch our “Pathways to Freedom” (PTF) Program—a new initiative designed to support young people with psychosocial disabilities from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities.

About the Pathways to Freedom Program (PTF)

Pathways to Freedom is more than just a program; it’s a long-term investment in the personal development, resilience, and independence of young people in our community. Co-designed with key partners who share our mission, PTF will provide participants with essential life skills, self-empowerment, and support. This initiative is a unique opportunity for us to contribute to systemic change, providing skills and support that will have lasting benefits for individuals, families, and communities.

What’s Coming Up in Pathways to Freedom

Our new program has an exciting and impactful lineup, aimed at creating real, meaningful change in participants’ lives:

  • Skills Training & Mentoring: Our participants will receive targeted, long-term mentoring and training in essential life skills. This training is designed to build confidence, encourage self-reliance, and prepare young people for the challenges ahead.
  • Entrepreneurship Workshops: With a focus on creating opportunities, these workshops will inspire participants to explore the world of entrepreneurship. Whether they aim to start their own business or simply gain valuable skills, our sessions will provide practical insights and strategies.
  • Financial Literacy Courses: Understanding finances is a critical skill for achieving independence. Through financial literacy courses, we’ll help young people develop money management skills, empowering them to make informed decisions about their financial futures.
  • Community Storytelling Projects: A key component of the PTF program is helping participants share their own journeys. Through storytelling workshops, they will gain a voice and platform, contributing to their self-confidence and promoting community awareness.

About the ICB Program: A Nationwide Vision for Inclusive Support

The Individual Capacity Building (ICB) Program, funded by the Australian Government, is dedicated to creating a more inclusive society by enabling people with disabilities and their families to access support and skills-building opportunities. The ICB program’s mission aligns perfectly with our goals at BREED, as it aims to create a national framework for peer support, mentoring, and capacity-building for individuals living with disabilities.

Creating a Lasting Social Impact

Our vision for the Pathways to Freedom program is to foster self-reliance, build networks of support, and ultimately strengthen the communities we serve. By helping individuals build resilience and find their own paths to independence, we believe that we can create a ripple effect that benefits families, communities, and future generations.

We’re honoured to embark on this journey with the support of the ICB Program and look forward to the positive impact it will have across Western Sydney. Stay tuned for updates as we launch this program, and if you’re interested in learning more or getting involved, please reach out to our team today!

Let’s make a difference, together!

Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that BREED is located on the lands of the Darug Peoples and pay our respects to Darug Elders past, present, and emerging. We also acknowledge that Western Sydney is a former resettlement area, and many Aboriginal families call Western Sydney home, some for many years across generations, and for some, more recently. We pay our respects to our Elders and community leaders for their past and ongoing commitment to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in Western Sydney
