Tenant Spotlight: Karen Firth Counselling

A qualified counselor with over 15 years’ experience, Karen Firth Counseling has been operating since February 2020.

Karen has extensive experience with involuntary clients, specializing in alcohol, substance abuse, anger management and mental health issues. Her passion for counselling and love of people inspired her to start up her own business.

“Initially I made a phone call to BREED and I was then encouraged to attend in-person to meet the staff, look at room availability and discuss what my needs were and how the needs could be met.”

Originally starting as a virtual tenant utilizing the centre’s meeting rooms, Karen became a physical tenant within BREED with her own office space.

“Since setting up my office in the BREED building, I have felt supported, the staff continue to amaze me with their patience and assistance, and my clients find the location easy to get to and generally close to their homes.”

Karen also provides mentoring and hosting of social work students on placement. She prides herself on her extensive training and qualifications. Her approaches include cognitive behavioural therapy, a strengths-based approach, mindful and relaxation techniques, and the good lives model.

Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that BREED is located on the lands of the Darug Peoples and pay our respects to Darug Elders past, present, and emerging. We also acknowledge that Western Sydney is a former resettlement area, and many Aboriginal families call Western Sydney home, some for many years across generations, and for some, more recently. We pay our respects to our Elders and community leaders for their past and ongoing commitment to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in Western Sydney
