Remember the yearly routine for many of us? The infamous New Years Resolutions!
How many of us actually achieve these Goals or Dreams that we set during these times?
Casing point. Gym memberships skyrocket in January and February (losing weight is one of the most popular New Years Resolutions!) but fall significantly after a couple of months. Many more continue to pay for ongoing Gym memberships but never revisit the Gym.
People often wonder why we lost the urge or motivation to follow through with our goals that once was so appealing and achievable?
Thousands of books have been written about Goal Setting and Goal Achievement. I have been addicted to this topic for many years!
So what is the hidden secret behind the Goal Setting and Goal Achievement Process?
The secret lies somewhere between your heart and brain. And if you still reading this, the good news is that both of these are working correctly inside you.
The secret is that when you set goals, you are usually thinking with your heart! People often chose goals that make them feel good. Makes sense, right? And while we set these goals, we ‘consciously’ chose our goals from the conscious part of our brain (and yes if you still understand this post, that part is working perfectly well too!). To get more technical, that part of your brain is broadly called the Frontal Lobe. And being ‘frontal’, it sits in the front part of your mind (the functioning brain).
So we chose our goals from our heart and our frontal lobe (brain). We get excited (or sometimes scared), depending on how we perceive the chances of us getting to those goals. And for some of us, we try to achieve these goals.
So why is it that in many cases we don’t achieve these goals? Humans are perfect at coming up with reasons (or excuses) why goals do not eventuate. You have heard the typical reasons, ‘ I am not smart enough’, ‘ I didn’t have the time’, ‘ I didn’t know how to get to those goals’,….. The list goes on.
The secret is the main reason why we don’t achieve our goals, sits in a part of the brain, which for simplicity I call the subconscious mind.
Your subconscious mind is a part of your brain that contains all your visible and hidden beliefs, your habits and attitudes. In a nutshell, if this part of your brain is aligned to your goals, then chances are you will achieve it!
The secret is the subconscious mind.
And then the next question is, how do we enable our subconscious mind, to help us achieve our goals and dreams?!
